[Also in Division B3] A metal connecting-bar 11 is cast on to one end of a plurality of parallel lengths 7 of wrought metal rod to form a grid for active material. The lengths of rod may be made from dispersion hardened lead containing for example a dispersed oxide, a lead-calcium alloy, a lead-tin-antimony alloy or a lead-antimony alloy. The grids may be made on a continuous basis by feeding a plurality of extruded rods to a moulding station where a connecting-bar is cast across the rods, and then to a severing station where the rods are cut to length. Alternatively the grid may be made by bending a rod to form a plurality of parallel lengths of rod, casting a connecting bar to one end and finally trimming off the end loops of the lengths of rod at the other end. |
