The invention concerns a phase shifted monomode optical fibre with having an effective area not less than 60 mu m<2>. Said fibre is characterised in that it has a chromatic dispersion cut off wavelength lambda 0 higher than 1585 nm and a chromatic dispersion at 1550 higher in absolute value than 3 ps/nm.km. The invention is applicable to wavelength multiplexing transmission systems, and enables to limit non-linear effects, such as four-wave mixing and to limit the use of compensating dispersion fibre.
