1,114,915. Manipulators. UNITED STATES ATOMIC ENERGY COMMISSION. 13 Jan., 1967 [18 March, 1966], No. 2049/67. Heading B4Q. The rest position of the slave tongs of a manipulator is made adjustable, i.e. the distance between the tong fingers in the rest position can be suited to the size of the article to be handled so as to reduce operator fatigue. As shown, a tape 1 transmitting an operating force to the tongs (not shown) from an actuating device passes over rollers 7, 8 rotatable in a cage 6 secured to a shaft 2. The shaft 2 is rotatable in brackets 3, 4 by a handle 16 and is held in its adjusted position by a releasable ratchet head 11. Thus by rotating the cage 6 from the position shown the length of the tape path between the tongs and actuating device may be. increased or decreased .so that the tong fingers may be brought further apart or closer together in their rest position. |
