PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To ensure the constantly appropriate paper sheet feed interval and to improve the productivity and reliability by detecting the presence/absence of the duplicate feed that a part of next paper sheets are pulled out of a paper sheet loading means when the paper sheet is fed by the paper feed means, and controlling a paper feed means so that the paper feed interval is constant when the duplicate feed is detected. SOLUTION: When the paper feed instruction is given to a paper feed part 3, a printing paper sheet is fed from either of paper feeders 3a-3d, and the paper sheet is carried by carrying rollers 34a-34d to form an image by an image forming part 2. When the paper request flag is '1' in the paper feed routine, the paper feed roller 32a is rotated, and the time t1 is set to a timer. When the paper feed request flag is '0', it is judged whether or not the counting of the timer is completed, and the paper feed roller 32a is stopped when the counting is completed. When a duplicate feed sensor 33a detects the duplicate feed during this time, the time t3 is added to a second timer, and the duplicated feed is suppressed by increasing the paper feed interval.
