PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent feeding failure due to extra time required for feeding of a sheet material because of resistance generated at the time when the sheet material passes through a curved feeding passage. SOLUTION: This sheet material feeding device has a feeding part 3 to feed a sheet material S from a storage part 2, a feeding passage 4 the whole part or a part of which is curved to guide the sheet material S to be fed by the feeding part 3, a detection sensor 7 arranged on the downstream side in the feeding direction lower than a curved part of the feeding passage 4 and to detect the sheet material S and a control means to control motion of the feeding part 3 in accordance with a detection signal of the detection sensor 7. In this case, it is devised to carry out second feeding motion by the feeding part 3 at the time when the detection sensor 7 does not detect the sheet material S even when a specified period of time passes after first feeding motion by the feeding part 3 is carried out.
