The following are claimed: (A) preparation of a granular formulation for compression into pharmaceutical tablets, comprising: (a) intimately mixing particles of a pharmaceutical active with a smooth uniform aqueous slurry of hydrolysed cellulose, to form a smooth uniform aqueous slurry of hydrolysed cellulose and pharmaceutical active; and (b) spray-drying the slurry, at a temperature below the charring temperature of the hydrolysed cellulose and the melting point of the pharmaceutical active. (B) Porous spherical granular composition for compression into pharmaceutical tablets, comprising 1-97 wt.% of pharmaceutical active and 3-99 wt.% of hydrolysed cellulose.
