PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for previously pretreating raw flesh bonito into such a form as to be divisible into four meat pieces in a high yield so as to be suitable for processing into dried bonito. SOLUTION: This method for the pretreatment of raw flesh bonito comprises the following steps, bonitos are conveyed on a lower guide while nipping them with left and right nipping belts, and during the conveyance, the abdominal cavities are cut open, the internal organs are removed, and the abdominal meat are divided, successively in this order, and the abdomen is cut open left and right as well, and then, both the flanks at the boundary between the back and the abdomen are horizontally slitted toward the tip of the bone horizontally projected from the backbone using a pair of left and right cutters; subsequently the resulting bonitos are steamed and each of the corresponding fleshes is easily divided into four meat pieces while peeling the meat off the bone.
