PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To surely and automatically press fit oil seals to openings at both ends of a work. SOLUTION: An oil seal press fitting device for press fitting the oil seals respectively to openings 1a at both ends of a housing 1, comprises a pair of left and right press fitting actuators 11 which can be moved toward the openings 1a in synchronization with one another, the press-fit metal fittings 15 mounted on the actuators 11, the stockers 16 holding a plurality of press-fit metal fittings 15, and the loaders 17 for taking out predetermined press-fit metal fittings 15 from the stockers 16, and loading the press-fit metal fittings 15 to the actuators 11. The transparent members are inserted into the through holes formed on the oil seal fitting parts of the press-fit metal fittings 15. The light is projected from a light emitter toward the through holes of the oil seal fitting part, and the existence of the oil seal can be detected on the basis of whether the light transmitted through the transparent member is received by a light receiver or not.
