PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a degrease/washing method and its device by which the surface of a material to be washed can be degreased with a small influence on the human body and environment and at a low cost. SOLUTION: Water is heated to generate steam in a steam generating chamber, the steam is led to a washing chamber 2 through a line 10 and the steam is brought into contact with a material to be washed 5 in the state that the surface of the material to be washed 5 is heated to not less than the boiling point of water to perform the defatting of the material to be washed 5. In order to effectively perform washing for degreasing, the temperature of the surface of the material to be treated 5 is preferably made higher than the boiling point of water by not less than 10 deg.C (more preferably by not less than 20 deg.C). In this way, since the steam is not condensed on the surface of the material to be washed 5, degreasing/washing can be uniformly performed, and further, since the washing is performed in a dry atmosphere and in a high temperature atmosphere, the degrease/washing can be more effectively performed.
