PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an azimuth pusher contorl method of and device that use two azimuth pushers so effectively as to reduce their power consumption and noise. SOLUTION: Two azimuth pushers 2 and 3 arranged on a line C2 perpendicular to a hull centerline C1 in the stern-side bottom region of a marine research ship 1 are driven by a DPS or other controller 4. The controller 4 uses mode signals B effecting a longitudinally fixing mode whereby the turn on the line C2 is limited in the same direction other than the normal 360-degree turning mode, so that it can control turning motors 2b and 3b of the azimuth pushers 2 and 3 in the longitudinally fixing mode to provide lateral thrust in holding the ship position when external forces such as winds, waves and tides are relatively moderate.
