PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid storage tank capable of suppressing the evaporation of liquid and the dissolution of a gas above the liquid into the liquid and to provide a method for cleaning the tank capable of preventing the gas from entering the discharge pipe and allowing an easy cleaning of the inside of the tank without fouling the surroundings. SOLUTION: In a water storage tank fitted with a liquid feed/discharge device, the peripheral edge part of a gastight membrane 2 in the shape of a cone or of the inside of the tank is fixed to an upper edge part 3 of the liquid storage tank in a liquid storage tank part 1, and a float 4 is fitted to the central part of the gastight membrane 2 to float it on the surface of the liquid. Just before the completion of liquid discharge from a tank bottom liquid discharge pipe 5, the tank bottom liquid discharge pipe opening is closed by gravity by the lowering of the float 4. And when washing it, the float 4 is lifted by a rope 18 to wash the gastight membrane and the inside of the tank with a pressure fluid.
