PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-cost coal pretreatment method whereby light oils, including BTX, can be obtd. in an esp. high yield as thermal decomposition products in a process for producing gas, tar, and char by coal thermal decomposition. SOLUTION: In this coal pretreatment method, pulverized coal is put into an acidic wastewater contg. metal ions to cause the coal to carry the metal ions in the wastewater as a catalyst. In this method, after the pulverized coal is put into the acidic wastewater contg. the metal ions, the pH of the wastewater is increased with an alkali neutralizing agent to cause a metal compd. precipitated as sludge to be carried as a catalyst by the pulverized coal. In one embodiment of the invention, after ferrous ions contained in the acidic wastewater are oxidized to ferric ions, pulverized coal is put into the wastewater; then the pH of the wastewater is increased to 2-5 with an alkali neutralizing agent; and a ferric compd. precipitated as sludge is selectively carried as a catalyst by the pulverized coal. |
