PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a multi-branched polymer which can easily be produced, has a highly regular branched structure and a relatively even mol.wt. distribution, and is useful for producing various kinds of highly functional materials related to chemical field, medicinal field, etc. by binding specific basic repeating units to each other and controlling a weight-average mol.wt., etc. in specific ranges, respectively. SOLUTION: This multi-branched polymer comprises basic repeating units of formulas I or II, and III (R1 is a 1-20C trivalent hydrocarbon; and R2 is a 1-20C divalent hydrocarbon), and has a weight-average mol.wt. and a mol.wt. distribution of <=3. The polymer is obtained, for example, by dissolving (A) a compound having one or more carboxyl groups (for example, trimesic acid) as a central nucleus in an organic solvent, activating the carboxylic acid with an equivalent amount of a condensing agent, condensing the activated carboxylic acid with an equivalent amount of (B) an aminodicarboxylic acid such as 5- aminoisophthalic acid, and further repeating the activation of the produced carboxylic acid and the subsequent condensation of the activated carboxylic acid with the next monomer.
