摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make it possible to high temperature heating by utilizing the self exhothermic property and adiabatic property possessed by carbon powder by packing the carbon powder into a vessel having electrodes in opposite positions and energizing these electrodes in an nonoxidizing atmosphere contg. vacuum. SOLUTION: The carbon heating furnace comprises the inner vessel 2 to be packed with the carbon powder 1, a vacuum vessel 3 enclosing the inner vessel 2 and a power source 4 which passes the vacuum vessel 3 and supplies current to the electrodes 5 of the inner vessel 2. The inner vessel 2 has a removable cap 2a at its apex and is provided with the electrodes 5 at the center and bottom center of the cap 2a. The electrodes 5 are insulated by an insulating layer material 6 in a mounting part. Ordinary furnace materials, such as ceramics, are used for the inner vessel 2. The carbon powder 1 is packed into the inner vessel 2 and the inside of the vacuum vessel 3 is evacuated. The electrodes 5 are energized by the power source 4. The carbon powder 1 have spacings from each other and the electric resistance is higher than the electric resistance of carbon of solid and has the adiabatic property and, therefore, the current flows through the carbon powder in the central part between the electrodes more than the peripheral and the temp. in this part rises high. The carbon powder turns to graphite 1a and graphitization progresses.
