PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a means for efficiently treating a waste polymer containing an inorganic material, whereby the inorganic material and the polymer utilizable as a reducing material for use in a blast furnace can be recovered and whereby the pollution of the environment with the otherwise discarded waster polymer can be prevented. SOLUTION: There are provided a heating medium for treating a polymer- containing waste, which medium is a heating medium which, when the waste is immersed therein, separates the polymer component and other components, wherein the heating medium is a mixture of a hydrocarbon compound with pitch and/or a softening-point-elevating agent and has a softening point of 50-150 deg.C and a method for treating a polymer-containing waste, comprising heating the above heating medium to a temp. of 200-400 deg.C which temp. is lower than its boiling point and immersing the waste therein to separate the polymer component and the inorganic material. |
