PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic peroxide having improved odor, to provide a method for improving rubber or a thermoplastic using the peroxide and to obtain the improved material therefrom. SOLUTION: This organic peroxide having improved odor is obtained by reducing the total amount of specific cyclic compounds as impurities of 2,5- dimethyl-2,5-di(t-butylperoxy)hexane(DMDTB) industrially and widely used in the modification of polymers to <=2 wt.%. A modified material having slight odor is obtained without polluting a working environment and without lowering physical properties of the resultant modified material by performing the modification of rubber or a thermoplastic by using the organic peroxide.
