PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently make use of the office space by switching first and second guide members to the position evacuated from a main carrying passage, the position to transfer a container on the main carrying passage onto a short- circuit carrying passage, and the position to transfer the container on the short- circuit carrying passage onto the main carrying passage. SOLUTION: The drive of each drive device is controlled by a controller 54 to control the drive of a motor for a short-circuit carrying passage 5. First and second guide members 6, 7 are switched to the position evacuated from a main carrying passage 3, the position to transfer a container P on the main carrying passage 3 onto a short-circuit carrying passage 5, and the position to transfer the container P on the short-circuit carrying passage 5 onto the main carrying passage 3. When the shortcircuit carrying passage 5 is driven, the guide member 6(7) on the inlet side of the short-circuit carrying passage 5 is switched to the position at which the container on the main carrying passage 3 is transferred onto the short-circuit carrying passage 5, and the guide member 7(6) on the outlet side of the short-circuit carrying passage 5 is switched to the position at which the container on the short-circuit carrying passage 5 is transferred onto the main carrying passage 3.
