PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a fishing rod having excellent balance in the axial direction of a rod body and ready in fishing rod handleability. SOLUTION: This fishing rod has a base fishing rod 1 and a rod body unit 2 to be connected to the ear tip side of the base fishing rod 1. The base fishing rod 1 is a tapered tubular member obtained by impregnating carbon fibers or glass fibers with a synthetic resin to give a prepreg (ordinary prepreg) and the carbon fibers or the glass fibers with a synthetic resin mixed with metal powder to give a prepreg (metal powder mixed prepreg) and winding the prepregs on a mandrel. Namely, the base fishing rod 1 has an inner layer 11 made of the ordinary prepreg and an outer layer 12 composed of the metal powder mixed prepreg formed on the outer periphery of the inner layer 11. In this fishing rod, the position of the center of gravity of the whole fishing rod is moved to the fishing rod base side by the metal powder mixed prepreg having a high density to make the handling of the fishing rod easy.
