MANUFACTURE OF GAS DIFFUSION ELECTRODE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a gas diffusion electrode which does not block electrolyte and gas passages while enhancing the strength of a reaction layer and the adhesive strength of a gas feed layer joined to the reaction layer and has a long service life and high performance. SOLUTION: When the material 5 of a reaction layer is filled into a metallic porous body 4 and this body 4 is laminated on a porous sheet 6 of fibrillated PTFE to manufacture the objective gas diffusion electrode 1, the amt. of the material 5 filled into the metallic porous body 4 is controlled so as to apply >=20 kg/cm2 pressure to the contact part (a) of the porous sheet 6 and the metallic part of the metallic porous body 4 and <=10 kg/cm2 pressure to the contact part (b) of the porous sheet 6 and the material 5 filled into the metallic porous body 4. Hot pressing is then carried out under the conditions of 330-380 deg.C pressing temp. and >=5 kg/cm2 pressing pressure.
