PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a circulated gas amount by utilizing such a fact that carbon dioxide has larger heat capacity and density than gaseous nitrogen. SOLUTION: In this exhaust recirculation system for an engine, which is so formed that a part of exhaust 1 is returned as reflux gas 2 to a combustion chamber 3, a gas permeating film 5 is arranged, and a gas permeating film wherein a carbon dioxide permeating speed is higher than a gaseous nitrogen permeating speed in permeating carbon dioxide and gaseous nitrogen individually under the condition of the same pressure and the same temperature is used as the gas permeating film 5. The exhaust 1 is permeated through the gas permeating film 5, and the permeated component of the exhaust 1 permeated through the gas permeating film 5 turns into reflux gas 2.
