965,790. Treating glass surfaces. CORNING GLASS WORKS. Jan. 16, 1961 [Jan. 25, 1960], No. 1775/61. Heading C1M. [Also in Divisions B2 and H1] A method for applying (e.g. dipping) a silicone coating to a siliceous vitreous surface e.g. printed circuits) to produce a waterrepellant surface having a high electrical surface resistivity comprises chemically dissolving a thin layer from the vitreous surface, drying the surface and maintaining the surface at a temperature of at least 100‹ C. until the silicone coating is applied. The surface is treated by etchants such as hydrofluoric acid, ammonium bifluoride solutions and fluoborate and fluosilicate solutions. The coatings may be cured. The vitreous surface may be partially metallized, the metal portion then being cleaned with ammonium persulphate. In the example printed circuit boards produced by metallizing by a nickel metallizing procedure as described in Specification 896,177, and then copper-plating pattern etched glass sheets, are treated with hydrofluoric acid, rinsed with water, dried, dipped in a solution of dimethyl polysiloxane in perchloroethylene and cured. Xylene and toluene are other specified solvents. Specifications 699,897, 752,243 and 830,103 also are referred to.
|
