PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spool for a wire rod capable of providing a good recycling property without causing the wire rod to be bent and body strut members to be deformed if the spool is subjected to impact. SOLUTION: A pair of flanges 2 opposed to each other, which have central portions provided with holes 2c to insert a supporting shaft therein, are formed of aluminum or aluminum alloy. Eight body strut members 3 are connected at both ends thereof to the flanges 2 so as to be carried between the flanges 2. The connections between the body strut member 3 and the flange 2 are located on a circular ring around the centers of the holes 2c. r/R is 0.7-1.3, where the radius of an envelope circle of all body strut member 3 is R and the radius of curvature of a face at the flange outer edge of the column member 3 is (r). The ratio d/D of the peripheral length (d) of a face at the flange outer edge of each body strut member 3 to the total peripheral length D of he envelope circle is 0.05 or more.
