WATER-BASED COATING MATERIAL COMPOSITION FOR COATING OUTER SURFACE OF CAN FOR FOOD

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a water-based coating material composition for coating outer surfaces of cans for foods capable of manifesting excellent retort resistance and wet ink suitability and to provide a method for producing the composition. SOLUTION: This water-based coating material composition for coating outer surfaces of cans for foods contains (A) an acrylic/epoxy resin prepared by polymerizing (b) a radically polymerizable unsaturated monomer mixture containing (1) an acidic group-containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer in an amount of 0.02-20 wt.% expressed in terms of solid content weight ratio and (2) other ethylenically unsaturated monomers and having 20-100 acid value in the presence of (a) an epoxy resin having 300-10,000 number-average molecular weight and 150-5,000 epoxy equiv. by actions of a polymerization initiator and having the weight ratio of the above epoxy resin (a) to the unsaturated monomer mixture (b) within the range of (2/98) to (30/70) and (B) an amino resin.
