PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce the subject compound by a method suitable for a large industrial scale production by reducing a dihalogenohexafluorocyclopentene with hydrogen gas by using a specific catalyst. SOLUTION: A compound of formula I (x is a halogen or H) [1,2- dihalogeno-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluorocyclopentene (e.g. 1,2-dichloro-3,3,4,4,5,5- hexafluorocyclopentene) or 1-hagogeno-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluorocyclopentene] and hydrogen gas are brought into contact with a catalyst containing copper, iron, chromium or nickel in a gas phase to provide a 1-halogeno-3,3,3,4,4,5,5- hexafluorocyclopentene of formula II (Y is a halogen which is same as X, or H) (e.g. 1-chloro-3,3,4,4,5,5-hexafluorocyclopentene) and/or 3,3,4,4,5,5- hexafluorocyclopentene. |
