PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a flame-retardant composition which is improved in tensile characteristic and volume resistivity (insulating property) by compounding potassium titanate surface-treated with a silane coupling agent, in an olefin resin containing a metal hydroxide. SOLUTION: It is preferred to compound 1 to 8 pts.wt. of potassium titanate, which is surface treated with a silane coupling agent, in 100 pts.wt. of a base resin wherein a metal hydroxide is compounded in an olefin resin. The olefin resin and the metal hydroxide should preferably be mixed at 20:80 to 80:20 (by weight ratio). The metal oxide and the potassium titanate surface treated with a silane coupling agent are compounded in the olefin resin to crosslink the resin. The crosslinkage may be performed by any of chemical crosslinkage with a crosslinking agent, silane crosslinkage, or crosslinkage through electron beam radiation. For the chemical crosslinkage, it is preferred to compound a silane coupling agent.
