PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently form a uniform coating film to the outer peripheral surface of a cylindrical substrate by simple control. SOLUTION: In a method for coating a cylindrical substrate with a coating material supplied to a coating roll 2, the cylindrical substrate 1 and the coating roll 2 are rotated in the same direction and allowed to be spaced apart from each other in such a state that ribs are formed to the coating film on the cylindrical substrate 1. The cylindrical substrate 1 and the coating roll 2 are pref. rotated in the same direction in a non-contact state.
