PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material for preventing the spread of a fire which is soft and can easily applied for coating an object, etc., because it is ball-shaped or net-like, which can coat an object in the distance and in a short period of time by using a launcher, etc., which can greatly reduce risks of a person using the material, and which can securely prevent the spread of a fire by letting the material absorb or include water. SOLUTION: This material for preventing the spread of a fire includes at least a water absorbing polymeric material which can absorb or include released water. When there is a possibility that a fire may spread, a great amount of water will be absorbed in a prescribed amount of connected strings or fine grains of the water absorbing polymer material to form a water-including layer to prevent the spread of the fire.
