PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To shorten a machining cycle in a machine tool equipped with a tool exchanger storing a number of tools in a tool magazine. SOLUTION: A tool T mounted on a spindle 13 of a machine tool and a tool stored in a tool magazine 20 are exchanged by a tool exchanger. The tool exchanger comprises at least two interchange devices for interchanging two tool positions, the interchanging device closest to the main spindle side among them is the final interchanging device 60 for interchanging the tool between a specific tool exchange position C and the main spindle, and the remained interchanging device interchanges the tool between the interchange original position A where a desired tool in the tool magazine is transferred, and the tool exchange position. The remained interchange device is an intermediate interchange device 30, the central parts of both interchange devices are rotatably supported, and both interchange devices comprises arms for removably holding the tool, so that the positions of the tool are interchanged by the rotation. A transfer device 40 is preferably mounted for transferring the tool between both interchange devices. |
