PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polynucleotide for treatment, diagnosis, etc., of inflammation, autoimmune diseases, infection, ischemia AIDS, cancers, etc., having high identity in total length to nucleic acid sequence encoding IL-1δpolypeptide having a specific amino acid sequence. SOLUTION: This isolated new polynucleotide comprises a nucleotide sequence which has at least 80% identity in total length to nucleotide sequence encoding interleukin-1δ(IL-1δ) polypeptide of the formula and encoding a polypeptide having activity of IL-1δpolypeptide or a nucleotide sequence which is complementary to the nucleotide sequence and is useful for treatment, diagnosis, etc., of chronic or acute inflammation, arthritis, septic infection, autoimmune diseases, refuse of transplantation infection, apoplexy, ischemia, AIDS, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, etc. This polynucleotide is obtained by using expression sequence tag analysis from cDNA library derived from human osteoclastoma by standard cloning and screening.
