PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently obtain a high purity porphyrinπ-radical single crystal useful for electronic materials, optical materials or the like in high yield by the electrolytic reduction of a porphyrin in a polar solvent to yield the single crystal on the working electrode. SOLUTION: This porphyrinπ-radical single crystal, which is formed by aπ-radical in which a porphyrin ring is reduced or is formed by a one-electron reduced neutralπ-radical, is obtained by the electrolytic reduction of a porphyrin in a polar solvent (e.g. acetonitrile) to yield the single crystal on the working electrode. It is pref. to produce the single crystal of dichlorophosphorous (V) tetraphenylporphyrin of formula II by the electrolytic reduction of a compound of formula I (X is an anion).
