PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a belt type continuously variable transmission which can prevent a belt from single-sided contacting without heightening the mounting accuracy of a bearing and the bearing rigidity, compared with a conventional arrangement, and can preclude deterioration of the transmission performance and drop of the belt lifetime without increasing cost. SOLUTION: Either an input 3 or an output pulley 4 consisting of stationary sheaves 31 and 41 and movable sheaves 32 and 42 is mounted by the floating structure having a degree of freedom in the axial direction relative to the shafts 1 and 2. Thereby the axial direction position of the floating pulley member is automatically adjusted optimally using the axial direction position of the fixed pulley as the reference without requiring a high accuracy in the mounting position of the supporting bearing or with eventual change in the position of the bearing caused by an external force, and a belt 5 can be prevented from single-sided contacting.
