PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject sedative capable of providing sedative effects simply by vaporizing and inhaling thereof without any fear of physically or psychologically loading a user by including a trialkoxybenzene. SOLUTION: This sedative is obtained by including a trialkoxybenzene represented by the formula (R1 to R3 are each an alkoxy and preferably CH3 or C2H5) as an active ingredient. Trimethoxybenzene (e.g. 1,3,5- trimethoxybenzene) is preferred as the trialkoxybenzene. The trialkoxybenzene has a phenolic sweetness and a spicy woody aroma. The sedative is included as an active ingredient to afford a sedative perfume composition such as a perfume, a shampoo, rinses, an aromatic agent or a bathing agent. The content of the trialkoxybenzene in the composition is preferably 0.5-50 wt.%, more preferably 1-20 wt.%.
