PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a rubber composition that prevents a change in physical properties of an unvulcanized rubber with time and enhances storage stability by kneading a filler comprising a filler having a silanol group on the surface thereof and a coupling agent with a rubber raw material, and thereafter further kneading a thiophthalimide derivative, and then blending a vulcanizing agent and a vulcanizing accelerator thereinto. SOLUTION: Into 100 pts.wt. rubber raw material comprising a crosslinkable rubber, 30-100 pts.wt. filler containing 0.1-50 wt.%, preferably 0.3-30 wt.% filler having a silanol group on the surface and a silane coupling agent are formulated and kneaded. To the resultant kneaded product, 0.1-10 pts.wt., preferably 0.1-0.8 pts.wt. thiophthalimide derivative of the formula and optionally, 1-10 pts.wt., preferably 3-8 pts.wt. silica are added and kneaded, and thereafter a vulcanizing agent and a vulcanizing accelerator are compounded. In the formula, R is 1-22C aliphatic hydrocarbon, 3-22C alicyclic hydrocarbon or 6-22C aromatic hydrocarbon.
