PRODUCTION OF 1,4-DIHALOGENO-2-BUTENE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently produce the subject compound under mild conditions by reacting butene diol with a specific sulfonyl halide in the presence of a base. SOLUTION: 2-Butene-1,4-diol is reacted with a sulfonyl halide (e.g. methanesulfonyl chloride) of the formula R-SO2Z [R is a 1-6C aliphatic hydrocarbon group, a (substituted)aromaic hydrocarbon group or an (aromatic hydrocarbon group-substituted) hydrocarbon group; Z is a halogen] in the presence of a base (e.g. tertiary organic amine such as triethylamine). The sulfonyl halide and the base are each preferably used in an amount of 2.0-3.0 mol and 2.0-3.0 mol based on 1 mol 2-butene-1,4-diol. It is preferable that the reaction temperature is 0-15 deg.C when sulfonyl halide is dropped and room temperature to 60 deg.C after finishing dropping.
