PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make the body of a reel for fishing small by compactly arranging machine parts. SOLUTION: A subordinate dragging mechanism of fishing reel is mounted adjacent to the second end of the spool axis in the reel body, and selectively restricts the relative rotation between the spool axis and the reel body. The operative mechanism of the subordinate dragging mechanism is placed on the same side to the pinion gear of the face gear, and is capable of locking the spool axis unable to rotate in the reel body and unlocking, as the result capable of switching the subordinate dragging mechanism on and off. The reel body is capable of being made small because this operative mechanism of the subordinate dragging mechanism is locating on the same side of the pinion gear of the face gear.
