PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermal head causing no hindrance to size reduction of printer by simplifying the structure of a spring interposed between the supporting plate of the thermal head and the base of a printer in order to urge the thermal head against a platen roller. SOLUTION: A pressure applying means 15 having spring action is formed integrally with a supporting plate 14 having one side fixed with a head substrate 3 by projecting a cut part partially outward from the other side of the supporting plate 14. When a platen roller 11 is fixed at a predetermined position, the supporting plate 14 is pushed downward by means of the platen roller 11. Consequently, the pressure applying means 15 is collapsed between the printer base 9 and the supporting plate 14 to generate a repulsive force for pressing the supporting plate 14 against the platen roller 11 side.
