PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new aldehyde compound satisfying an electrophotographic characteristic and useful as an intermediate for synthesis of a triarylamine compound which is a raw material monomer for a polymer-type charge transport material. SOLUTION: This aldehyde compound is shown by formula I (R1 is an alkyl or an acyl; Ar1, Ar2 and Ar4 are each an allylene; Ar3 is an aryl). The compound of formula I is obtained by formylation of a triarylamine compound of formula II (Ar2 is an aryl). The aldehyde compound of formula I can be produced, for example, by dropping phosphorus oxychloride into N,N'- dimethylformamide in a stream of nitrogen gas while cooling them in ice to form Vilsmeier's reagent and dropping a DMF solution of 4-(4-methoxyphenethyl) triphenylamine into the reagent. Accordingly an intermediate for synthesis of dihydroxystilbene compound useful as a raw material monomer for an aromatic polycarbonate resin suitable for a polymer-type charge transport material used for an electrophotographic photoreceptor can be provided.
