PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a slate mounting aid which facilitates the positioning of slates relative to a locking plate and enables the joint width of stonework freely set and a stonework construction method whereby the stonework can easily and rapidly be constructed without moving. SOLUTION: A slate mounting aid 30 comprises a pair of plate-shaped bodies 11, 12 having respective tongue pieces 13, 14 and jointed together by a tongue- and-groove joint, and a screw 17 is inserted into both a screw hole 15 formed in the one tongue piece 13 and a cutout 16 formed in the other tongue piece 14, so that the pair of jointed plate-shaped bodies 11, 12 to be secured to different slates are secured to a locking plate. A stonework construction method is for constructing stonework by applying an adhesive to each slate to which the slate mounting aid 30 is secured in advance, pressing and positioning the slates together, and repeating main and temporary fastening of the slates using screws 17, after which construction work is completed by jointing the stonework assembled.
