FIELD: fish breeding. SUBSTANCE: method involves selecting indexes by sum of optimum features closely correlated with vitality, productivity of producers and their offspring and estimated by selection index: SI = <EMI ID=0.1 HE=8 WI=69 TI=CHI>, where SI is selection index; F(1)...F(n) is feature factor of specimen under estimation (unit, % etc), F(o) is optimum value of feature of specimens in shoal satisfying objective of selection; <EMI ID=0.2 HE=8 WI=8 TI=CHI> is optimum value of feature in case of selection for increasing the feature (maximum); <EMI ID=0.3 HE=8 WI=8 TI=CHI> is optimum value of feature in case of selection for decreasing the feature (minimum); M is evaluation of features on the basis of marks given for setting significance of these features for selection process. For reproduction purposes specimens with selection index (SI) exceeding 51 are selected. Method allows selection time to be reduced from 6-7 generations to 3 generations. EFFECT: increased precision in evaluating specimens for selecting them into breed and reduced selection time. 4 tbl
