A hetaroyl derivative of formula I is claimed wherein: L and M are hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, wherein these groups can optionally be substituted by between one and five halogen atoms or alkoxy or L and M are halogen, cyano or nitro; X is oxygen or sulphur, which can be substituted by one or two oxygens; n is zero, one, two; R1 and R4 are hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, wherein these groups can optionally be substituted by between one and five halogen atoms or alkoxy or R1 and R4 is halogen or optionally substituted phenyl; R2 and R3 are hydrogen, alkyl, alkenyl, alkynyl, alkoxy, wherein these groups can optionally be substituted by between one and five halogen atoms or alkoxy or R2 and R3 are halogen or optionally substituted phenyl or R2 and R3 can form a bond; Q is a cyclohexane-1,3-dione ring of formula II linked in the 2-position; wherein the remaining variables are as defined in the specification and agriculturally utilizable salts thereof. A herbicidal composition containing a heteroaryl compound as defined above is claimed.
