A probe for a speculum for use in examining the interior of a body cavity comprises an elongated tubular member 1 having a first end 3, a second 4 end and an expandable sealing element 2 encircling member 1 at or near end 3. A means, e.g. air tube 12, for admission of a fluid 50 to the interior of said sealing element to effect expansion thereof, is provided as is a removable closure means 31 for second end 4. A means, e.g. an air connection means 32, for admission of a fluid into the bore 13 of member 1 is integral with closure means 31. The closure means provides a line of sight, e.g. eye piece 41, extending through the closure means and along the bore of the tubular member.
