A liquid fertilizer composition comprising: a).water b).citric acid c).a difunctional amine selected from the group consisting of 2-hydroxyethylamine, dimethylaminopropylamine and mixtures thereof d).at least one metal oxide with about 0.001-5% weight wherein the metal is selected from calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, cobalt, copper, zinc, molybdenum and mixtures thereof, e).a liquid fertilizer solution including at least one nutrient selected from the group consisting of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium. A method for preparing a fertilizer where an acid is added to water, a metal salt is dissolved in the acid, adding the amine so the pH is at least 7.5, then adding this to the liquid fertilizer solution.
