PURPOSE: A recording and reproducing apparatus is provided, which performs a recording/reproducing of data to a non-volatile memory. CONSTITUTION: The recording and reproducing apparatus comprises a non-volatile memory (7) to be operated as a recording medium for recording a digital data; and a microcomputer (5) for performing a recording/reproducing of data to the non-volatile memory (7), having one RAM region. The non-volatile memory (7) includes a first region for recording an entire managing information of the non-volatile memory (7) and a second region for recording data of each file. The first region is a file managing table (FMT1) for recording a managing information to a start managing address. The managing information stored in the first region of the non-volatile memory (7) is not recorded to the first region of the non-volatile memory (7) or read from the first region. Thereby, it is possible to accurately record a last managing information to a file managing table when the power is instantaneously turned off.
