PURPOSE: Disclosed is a quadrature elliptical bird-cage resonator for an NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance). CONSTITUTION: Angular and current distributions for an elliptical birdcage resonator (54) are realized in a design that achieves constant electrical phase between adjacent legs of a coil (56). Equal peak currents in the driven legs of the orthogonal modes yields exact quadrature operation.
