PURPOSE: An apparatus for driving a plasma address type LCD is provided, which decreases a contrast of a display picture and does not decrease a S/N. CONSTITUTION: The apparatus for driving a plasma address type LCD comprises: an NTSC decoding unit (21) for decoding a reference video signal as a luminance signal and a color difference signal and extracting a synchronizing signal from the decoded luminance signal to provide a LCD controller (28); a liquid crystal column driver (25) for latching a video data with a 1 horizontal period and holding each pixel video data, wherein the LCD controller (28) generates a plasma pulse to operating a plasma driver (31) and the plasma driver (31) provides the plasma pulse and generates a plasma discharge. Thereby, it is possible to resolve the decrease of the S/N of the display video.
