PURPOSE: Molding device is provided which can be simultaneously molded an optical reference portion and reference portion for mounting of lens and obtained optical element having the appropriate thickness. CONSTITUTION: The molding device comprises an under casting(32) having one molding plane on the upper portion; an under circumferential control member(34) fitted into the outside of the under casting(32) for the control of the surplus glass material swelled toward the outside from the molding plane of the under casting(32); an upper casting(33) having the other molding plane in the under portion and an upper circumferential control member(35) fitted into the outside of the upper casting(33) for the control of the surplus glass material swelled toward the outside from the molding plane of the upper casting(34). In the device, when the softened glass material is molded with the molding plane by vertically movement at least one of the upper casting(32) and under casting(33), the surplus glass material is inflow the space formed by the upper portion and under portion of the under and upper circumferential control member(34, 35), respectively. The position of the upper portion and the under portion in the space flown into the surplus glass material is moved along the corner of the molding plane to correspond to the shape of the two molding plane.
