PURPOSE: A triac dimmable compact fluorescent lamp having a low power factor is disclosed. CONSTITUTION: The fluorescent lamp comprises a ballast for powering one or more lamps. The ballast comprises an input stage(50) coupled to the mains, an output stage(60, 75, 80, 81, 82) including an inverter(60) for supplying power to the one or more lamps, and a feedback circuit(51, 87). A power feedback circuit coupled between the input and output stages of the lamp ballast creates sufficient current demand to sustain triac conduction at low dim levels. The power fed back from the output stage to the input stage, which includes a voltage doubler, reflects the voltage across the lamp.
