PURPOSE: A cassette loading device having a dust protection mechanism is provided, which loads a recording medium cassette to a data recording and/or reproducing apparatus. CONSTITUTION: The cassette loading device having a dust protection mechanism comprises: a loading control unit (7) for controlling a switch driving unit (12) and moving a cover switch lever (5) to turn on the dust cover member (3); a loading position detecting unit (10) for detecting a loading state to output a loading detecting signal; a control unit (7) for controlling a driving motor unit (9) to stop a cassette moving mechanism (11); and an access judging unit (15) for analyzing a command provided from a host computer or a magnetic recording and reproducing apparatus and judging as to whether the access to a magnetic tape is needed. Thereby, it is possible to effectively protect the surface of the recording medium from a dust.
