PURPOSE: Title compound is prepared not using organic solvent and inorganic acid to high yield and high purity. CONSTITUTION: Stanol/sterol (compound II; R2 is C3- C15 carbon chain) and acid are reacted at 100- 220 degree C in the presence of catalyst such as zinc oxide, and decoloring agent such as charcoal or activated carbon to give a descrete stanol/sterol ester(compound I; R1 is C5- C25 carbon chain). Thus, 10 m mole of stanol, 12 m mole of aliphatic acid and 0.12 m mole of sodium disulfate are reacted at 150 degree C for 16 hours in vacuum, followed by separation to give the title compound.
