PURPOSE: A phenate over-basified detergent and a salicylate over-basified detergent with TBN:% surfactant ratio of 11 or more are provided to be used for a marine diesel lubricant additive. CONSTITUTION: Phenate over-basified detergents and salicylate over-basified detergents with TBN:% surfactant ratios of 11 or more are useful marine diesel lubricant additives. Herein, the detergent can be derived from more than one of surfactant being sulfurated or non-sulfurated phenol or the derivative thereof, other surfactant being different surfactant from the phenol surfactant, acid of general formula Ra-CH(Rb)-COOH, dicarboxyl acid containing 36-100 carbons, polycarboxyl acid, acid anhydride, or acid chloride.
